Maresca noemt Haaland en Dias twee van zijn vier aanvoerders en legt rol Anderson uit
Enzo Maresca heeft bevestigd dat Erling Haaland en Ruben Dias twee van zijn vier aanvoerders voor het nieuwe seizoen zijn en gaf uitleg over hoe nieuwkomer Elliot Anderson in het team past.

Maresca maakte de keuze voor twee captains bekend in aanloop naar de Community Shield-wedstrijd tegen Arsenal. Hij noemt Erling Haaland en Ruben Dias expliciet als twee van de vier aanvoerders en wil de twee resterende namen bewaren tot het einde van de transferwindow.

“At the moment I have picked Ruben [Dias] and Erling [Haaland], and I want to wait until the end of the transfer window to pick two more,” zei Maresca. Hij benadrukte ook: “Ruben showed during his time at this club how good he is as a player. In terms of being a leader, it is important for the captains to understand that the reason why they are captain is that I expect more from them, not because I give them more freedom or I give them more advantage.
“It’s the opposite for me. The leadership group, the captains are the ones that have to show more and give more in every moment.”

Elliot Anderson is deze zomer overgekomen naar Man City voor £116 million van Nottingham Forest. Maresca verklaarde over zijn rol: “He is a holding midfielder,” he said. “He can also be an attacking midfielder.
“I mean, the good thing about Elliot, first of all, is that he’s young, so you can work with him. You can help him to improve. You can help him to improve as a six. You can help him to improve as an eight. At Forest he was playing next to Sangare; with England he was playing next to Rice, so two physical players next to him.
“But I also think that in some games he doesn’t need physical players next to him. It depends a little bit on the game plan or the other team.”
